TECHNIQUE
HDPE pipe laying, Marine
As part of the Regional Sewerage Business Unit’s upgrades to it’s existing assets, 2.6km of dual HDPE pipeline needed to be installed between the Monaco Peninsula and Bells Island waste water treatment plant.
March Construction undertook the contract to install the 800mm and 250mm PE100 HDPE pipelines along with the chambers and associated connections. The alignment required the team to install the majority of the pipeline by barge where it crossed the Waimea inlet. This presented significant environmental compliancy challenges that needed to be incorporated into the works.
The pipe segments were welded together to form a string before being launched out along the pipeline alignment on rollers at which point it was lifted into the excavated trench.
