Project information

As part of the wider City Rail Link project, and in partnership with Soletanche Bachy International, March Construction was involved in the delivery of the deep foundation elements that made up the C3 contract which required the construction of 3 new underground stations, 3.2km of tunneling and significant retaining wall structures.

Project description

The deep foundation work scope of C3 included:

  • 500 No. 750 – 1500mm dia piles (13500 lin.m)
  • 150 No. 15 – 40m long ground anchors
  • Aotea Station: 630mm – 1000mm thick diaphragm wall x 14000sq.m
  • Karangahape Station: 800mm – 1000mm thick diaphragm wall x 7500sq.m
  • Mt Eden Station / C5: 800mm thick diaphragm wall x 9000sq.

The project was located in the heart of New Zealand’s largest and busiest city, Auckland. This added complexity to the works as there were numerous sensitive stakeholders, untold number of live services requiring diverting, and where space was at a premium necessitating careful planning and sequencing of the works.
