We Act Now
Environmental Sustainability is no longer a matter of choice, but a social responsibility.
Now, more than ever, we are concentrating on integrating sustainable systems into every level of our business so that we can lead the way in environmental best practice.
Our Responsibilty
At March, we believe a sustainable future relies upon decarbonisation and access to clean water, air, soils, and a diverse ecosystem. As such it is our responsibility to:
- Reduce our emissions
- Adapt to the impacts of climate change
- Ensure the economic use of natural resources
- Prioritise procurement of materials from sustainable sources
- Prevent the waste of materials, resources, and energy
- Manage waste products arising from our activities in accordance with the waste hierarchy
- Encourage the innovation of new sustainable practices and services
Our Environmental Initiatives
At March, we utilise a range of environmental initiatives to monitor and reduce our carbon activity including:
- Carbon budgets developed at tender time based on the EFFC Carbon Calculator, a tool which allows our teams to compare the embedded carbon of different pile solutions. These budgets set a benchmark to our site teams to better and ensure all our sites are pushing to improve their carbon footprints.
- #GreenisGreat initiative – we encourage our employees to propose new ways in which the business can reduce its environmental impact through carbon and energy initiatives.
- EXEGY – Exegy is a section within the Soletanche Bachy materials technical department tasked with specialising in working with local concrete suppliers to identify alternative binders and develop low-carbon concrete mixes. With the support of these dedicated experts, March regularly work with our concrete supply chain to develop several high cement replacement mix designs that have the ability to offer a reduction in CO2 of between 30 and 50% compared with regular Portland cement-based mixes.
- Ecotricity NZ – All our fixed premises are powered by 100% renewable energy sourced through our partnership with Ecotricity NZ.
