Project information

The C6 contract was one of the numerous enabling works contracts required to be delivered to facilitate the future construction of the City Rail Link tunnels. March Construction partnered with their sister company, Bessac – global leaders in micro-tunneling, to deliver this complex project.

Project description

The C6 project was for the construction of a new stormwater line from Water Street to Nikau Street, with an intermediate access shaft at Mt Eden Rd, to allow the City Rail Project to pass overhead. This micro-tunnelling works consisted of a 417m long stormwater tunnel with an ID of 1950 mm in a single drive from a drive shaft off the end of Water Street to a receiving shaft on the corner of Nikau Street and Ruru Street. These shafts reached depths of 22m and were constructed under the Mining Regulations. The micro-tunnel route has several curves, with the tightest of these being a radius of 150m, a New Zealand first!
