TECHNIQUE
Rotary Piling with Polymer
The 138 Victoria street commercial space development was undertaken by Naylor Love. The challenging ground conditions precluded shallow footing foundations and after an initial attempt to use driven pile foundations failed, the client approached March for assistance.
Due to concerns regarding the effects of vibration on the adjacent office block at 134 Victoria st, vibro-driven pile casings was also ruled out. Faced with these challenges March construction elected to utilise rotary bore piling with polymer to stabilise the bore to prevent it from collapsing. This was the first time that polymer support fluid had been used in piling in Christchurch’s challenging geology and artesian aquifers. March were able to successfully install the 20nr 900mm dia piles to 25m depth
