New Zealand Steel in partnership with the New Zealand Government and Contact Energy have commenced the construction of a new $300m electric arc furnace at the Glenbrook steel mill. This new electric arc furnace will reduce the country’s annual CO2 emissions by 1%! The new furnace design will see it grafted on to the existing plant.

 

Project description

March Construction’s scope of this project comprised: 

  • Working with the Beca team to optimise the piling design by providing constructability reviews.
  • 187nr bored piles ranging in diameter from 600 to 1050mm to a maximum depth of 30m, all from within the existing furnace hall
  • 43nr bored piles in low head room configuration utilising polymer support fluid.
